Maria C. Krane, EdD

After completing a Bachelor’s degree in English in her native Brazil, Maria was awarded  a Fulbright grant to pursue a Master’s degree in linguistics at Indiana University. She later received a doctorate in education from Mississippi State University. Her dissertation title was “Development of an Internationalization Index for U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges.”

Passionate about world cultures and cross-cultural communication, Maria speaks three languages and has visited 67 countries. She taught linguistics and foreign languages in Brazil and in the United States before becoming Director of International Programs at Nebraska Wesleyan University (1990-1997); Agnes Scott College (1997-2000); and Creighton University (2000-2014) where she oversaw the administration of study abroad, international student and scholar programs, exchange agreements with universities overseas and Creighton’s Intensive English Language Institute. 

Maria’s research was published or presented at conferences held in the U.S. and other countries. She served on several boards, including the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP).  

She held leadership positions in professional organizations at the local, state and national levels, including as President of the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) in 2003-04.
